I finished something

I think I must be the slowest knitter around. Maybe because I spend less than an hour a day knitting, or maybe 'cause I am just slow. This is my new scarf, the pattern is from Scarf Style, a bok that I just love. There is a knit along here, where you can see lots of the other scarves in the book.

This one is called "here and there cables" and I like it because it is a reversible pattern, good for scarves. you can see a closeup of the pattern below.

I used Berroco Ultra Alpaca (worsted weight), four skeins. I want to make it again using a DK weight yarn, for a more delicate look.

Luckily, there still seems to be plenty of time this winter to wear it!

My new job

Well since you asked, I do have a new job. For the past few years I had been doing research 100% of the time. Then for the past year or so I was doing teaching 50% and research 50%, since there was an urgent teaching need in the department I work in.

In 2007 I planned to just do research 60% time, since I am tired of working a full time job. Then my old boss from 6 -7 years ago asked me to start working for her part time. This is a new job for me: fundraising. I am working with her to develop some proposals that she hopes to get funded, so it is a writing job. I think she likes my organizational skills and writing skills, but I am worried that she is going to become disillusioned when she realizes I have no fundraising skills. I am not the type of person to go out and ask people for money.

So, now I do research from 8 to 3, and squeeze in as much writing as I can during the times when my experiments are incubating or whatever. I have also been working a bit on the weekends, which I HATE. Since we don't have internet access at home my internet surfing has dropped to almost nothing (probably a good thing) but I feel like I haven't been able to keep in touch with people very well. I think we are moving to get internet at home, we are just VERY SLOW about things like that.

I haven't been blogging, reading blogs, or playing with my flickr site at all since January. Sniff Sniff. I know I am lucky to have had the time to do those things ( and at work!) in the past....

Blanket project

The new job takes up 110% of my time....

But I am thinking of making a crochet blanket, inspired by my two favorite blogs.

Posie gets cozy is making this blanket:

While yarnstorm made this one:

Pictures are from their blogs. they are using the same pattern.

I of course can't decide what colors to use. It is for our green bedroom. I am thinking

1) all beige, white and cream

2) all lavender and light blue and grey.

3) brighter blue and purple

What do you think?
